Oklahoma City, OK : A man was killed in a wrong-way collision at Interstate 240 on Friday, May 6th, 2016
A man was killed Friday morning in a wrong-way collision on Interstate 240 in south Oklahoma City.
The crash closed the eastbound lanes of I-240 near Western and Walker avenues, but the interstate has since re-opened.
A 2003 GMC pickup truck was driving the wrong way down I-240 shortly after 3:10 a.m., striking a 2015 Honda Accord head-on, according to officials.
The driver of the Accord was killed in the crash, and the driver of the truck taken to an area hospital, officials said. The victim has been identified as Rickey E. Smith, 36, of Oklahoma City.
Gerardo Cerda Jr., 27, has been identified as the man driving the truck.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers detected odor of alcohol on the truck's driver, officials said. That person most likely will go to jail after being treated.
A second accident was reported just south of the original collision after part of the highway was closed, according to officials. The crash involved an Oklahoma City police cruiser, and an officer was sent to an area hospital.
The officer has been released from the hospital, officials said.
The cruiser was stopped on the highway, blocking traffic while crews were clearing the scene of the original crash. The driver has been arrested for driving under the influence.
