Anchorage ,AK : Motorcyclist killed in Midtown Anchorage crash on early Friday , July 3rd 2015

A 29-year-old man died early Friday after his motorcycle hit a car in Midtown Anchorage and then another motorcycle ran him over, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

Policy say a Subaru Outback had stopped at a red light in the far right southbound lane of Minnesota Drive near the West Tudor Road intersection.

"Just as the light turned to green, but before the Subaru had begun to move, it was struck from behind by a motorcycle driven by 29-year-old Carlos Chavesta," said a statement from Renee Oistad, police spokeswoman.

Chavesta, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle into the center lane of traffic. A second motorcyclist driving in the middle lane of Minnesota Drive saw Chavesta's body, Oistad said.

"He brakes hard, he's trying to swerve," she said. As his motorcycle fell and slid, it ran over Chavesta, she said. The second motorcyclist was thrown from his bike, but was not injured, she said.

Police responded to the crash at 1:04 a.m. Friday. Chavesta was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead at 1:59 a.m., Oistad said.

Officers closed the southbound lanes of Minnesota Drive from Spenard Road to Tudor Road until about 5:30 a.m. as they investigated the crash, Oistad said.

Oistad said there was no indication that Chavesta attempted to brake before colliding with the Subaru. Police do not suspect that speeding was a factor in the crash.
