Munster, IN : Elderly woman crashes car in pond in LaPorte on Wednesday, March 15, 2017
An elderly woman lost control her of vehicle before crashing it into a small pond about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
The woman was driving her 2006 Buick eastbound on Tiffany Woods Drive just east of Ind. 39 when the vehicle slid into a small pond, LaPorte County Sheriff's Capt. Mike Kellems said Wednesday.
Two other elderly woman were in the vehicle at the time. Area fire and EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene and the LaPorte Sheriff's Dive/Rescue Team was placed on standby as a precaution, he said.
The pond was shallow enough that the water only came up to the bottom of the doors, police said, and the three woman were able to remain in the vehicle while a local wrecker service pulled it from the pond.
The driver complained that her feet were cold," Kellems said in a news release. "However, there were no injuries and the vehicle was not damaged."
The car was driven away from the scene, Kellems said.
