Springfield, IL : Driver dies in fatal crash with tanker truck in Cahokia on Saturday, 13th August, 2016

A man driving a pickup truck died after crashing into a tanker truck early Saturday.

The Illinois State Police is investigating the fatal crash that happened about 6:10 a.m. on Route 3, according to Illinois State Police spokesman Calvin Dye Jr.

Witnesses said the pickup driver was traveling between 80 to 90 miles per hour on Route 3. When he got to Mississippi Avenue, a tanker truck was pulling out of a Phillips 66 gasoline station. The pickup driver didn't see it and drove underneath the tanker truck, causing the pickup to catch on fire and then strike a telephone pole nearby.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are trying to identify him, Dye said.

Though the tanker also caught on fire, the driver was not injured.
