Austin, TX : Two injured in NTTA work convoy crash on Tuesday, December 27th 2016
The driver of a tractor trailer collided with a North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) street sweeper on Sam Rayburn Tollway early Tuesday morning. Highway Patrol troopers and Frisco Fire Department responded to the crash.
The crash occurred near Coit Road on the southbound lane of Sam Rayburn Tollway. Preliminary investigation shows that an NTTA street sweeper was traveling south at a low speed and sweeping the right shoulder of the tollway.
The street sweeper was followed by two NTTA trucks, one with a lighted impact attenuator and another with a message board warning motorists of a “Sweeper Ahead.”
The truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling south on Sam Rayburn, and for no known reason, the tractor trailer struck the second NTTA truck in the convoy before hitting the street sweeper. The street sweeper overturned and came to rest on the right median.
Both drivers of the truck and the NTTA sweeper were transported to Medical Center of Plano for unknown injuries. None of the injuries appear to be life-threatening. The tractor trailer was not carrying any hazardous cargo.
The right two lanes of southbound Sam Rayburn Tollway are currently closed. The lanes should open in a few hours after the wreckage is cleared. Check back for more updates.
