Topeka, KS : Teenage boys ages 13 and 15 who died in Johnson County crash early Sunday, April 9, 2017

Lenexa police on Monday morning released the names of two boys who were killed in a crash involving a vehicle carrying nine people early Sunday in Johnson County.

The boys were identified as Isaiah Stroble, 15, and Angelito X. Espinosa, 13, both of Kansas City, Kan.

According to Lenexa police, the crash — which remains under investigation — occurred shortly after 4:30 a.m. Sunday at 80th and Maurer.

Lenexa police on Sunday said the crash occurred after a patrol officer noticed a vehicle traveling with its lights off around 4:35 a.m. in the 15700 block of W. 87th.

The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped away.

The officer lost sight of the vehicle and turned off its emergency equipment. A short time later, the officer came upon the vehicle, which had crashed into a tree at 80th and Maurer, said Lenexa police spokesman Danny Chavez.

Two of the occupants, including the driver, were pronounced dead at the scene. The other seven were taken to area hospitals.

Additional details, including the names and ages of the others injured in the crash, weren’t available.
