Burke County, NC : Home of man killed in hit-and-run crash on Thursday November 19 2015
Burke County, North Carolina
A family in Morganton is searching for answers after someone burglarized the home of a family member just days after he was killed in a hit-and-run while riding his bike.
Patricia Odell says it has been a painful week for her family. "We are just devastated," she said Tuesday afternoon.
It was last Thursday evening when her brother was riding a bicycle on old Highway 18 south of Morganton when someone hit him, and left.
Ronnie "Pee Wee" Frost was found in the middle of the road next to his bike by a paramedic who happened to be driving by. Efforts to revive him failed.
The Highway Patrol is looking for a small white pickup, possibly a Ford Ranger that was seen leaving the scene. So far, no leads have panned out.
We definitely need the public's help on this one," said investigating Trooper C. R. Hallyburton.
Patricia says she wants to know why anyone would leave someone on the middle of the road like that. The emotional toll didn't stop there, she said.
When family members went to Frost's trailer to retrieve some some clothes for his funeral, they found the door was open and his clothes were gone.
Someone done broke in and stole it all," she said.
Odell said the family is not in a position to afford much, but said local churches have helped and the funeral expenses have been taken care of. She just hopes that whoever was responsible for her brother's death comes forward and soon.
