Crystal Lake, IL : Driver flees after crashing into, knocking over pole in Crystal Lake early Friday morning, May 20, 2016

A car that crashed into and knocked down a light pole near the intersection of Pyott and Virginia roads early Friday morning was vacant when first responders arrived at the scene, a fire official said.

Crystal Lake Fire Department Battalion Chief William Whyte said the driver fled the scene of the crash, which happened at 3:21 a.m.

Crystal Lake police also responded and are investigating the crash, Sgt. Paul Olszak said. Information about the driver was not available Friday, he said.

Whyte said ComEd officials came to the scene and moved the broken light pole off the road.
