Manatee County, FL : Cyclist killed in an alcohol-related crash on Cortez Road West near 102nd Street on Sunday night, July 10, 2016

A bicyclist was killed in an alcohol-related crash Sunday night, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

According to the FHP, Eric Brenner, 30, of Bradenton was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee east on Cortez Road West near 102nd Street at about 8 p.m.

Daniel Lord, 67, of Bradenton was riding his bicycle in a southeast direction across the westbound lanes of Cortez Road, headed into the eastbound lanes, FHP says. Brenner did not see Lord cross into the lane and the front of the Jeep collided with the right side of the bicycle, FHP says.

Lord, who was not wearing a helmet, was fatally injured, FHP says. Brenner, who was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, was charged with driving under the influence, FHP reports.
