A 65-year-old Valparaiso man died in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Ind. 2 and County Road 450 East on Saturday afternoon.

Bruce Evers died on impact after his 2005 Chevrolet Impala was struck at 2:43 p.m. by a Ford F250 driven by Ray Poort, 29, of Westville, according to a Porter County Sheriff's office news release.

Evers entered the intersection traveling north on County Road 450 when his Impala was hit on the driver's side by Poort's F250 that was heading east on Ind. 2, the release stated.

Jacob Evers, 19, of Valparaiso, was a passenger in the Impala and was taken to Porter Region Hospital with complaints of pain in his entire body. Poort was uninjured, according to the release.

East and west traffic on Ind. 2 has the right of way at that intersection, with County Road 450 traffic control being a stop sign.

Toxicology tests are pending.

The Porter County Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene, and Ind. 2 was shut down for approximately two hours during the investigation, the release stated.

Assisting at the scene were Washington Township Fire, Porter EMS, Porter County Coroner’s office and Green’s Towing.
