BIRCH RUN TOWNSHIP, MI : 21-year-old woman dies in head-on crash near Birch Run on Saturday, 16th November 2024

A young woman died in a crash near Birch Run Township on Saturday evening.

The Saginaw County Sheriff's Office says a Nissan Rogue traveling west on Birch Run Road crossed the center line near Block Road around 5 p.m. and sideswiped a Chevrolet Equinox traveling eastbound.

The Nissan continued traveling west in the oncoming lane and slammed head-on into a Chevrolet Malibu.

Police say 21-year-old Alexis Rietz from Millington was pinned in the Malibu while a 31-year-old woman from Millington was pinned in the Nissan after the crash. Firefighters from three departments used hydraulic rescue tools to cut them free.

An ambulance rushed Rietz to Hurley Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead of her injuries. Two passengers in her car were listed in serious condition at Hurley Medical Center.

The 31-year-old Nissan driver, who was not identified, went to Covenant HealthCare hospital in Saginaw for treatment of serious injuries. The 75-year-old man from Clio driving the Equinox did not report any injuries from the crash.
