Galveston, TX : One person injured in motorcycle crash on Tuesday, December 30, 2014
A 21-year-old Galveston man is in serious medical condition after he crashed his motorcycle on the causeway while traveling more than 100 mph, police said.
He was taken by helicopter ambulance to the University of Texas Medical Branch just after 8 a.m., Capt. Mike Benavides said.
“It’s still under investigation what happened,” Benavides said.
The man was not wearing a helmet, he said.
One witness said the motorcyclist was trying to pass between a car and a truck while traveling south, but hit the truck, Benavides said.
According to police, the man had been involved in a disturbance either late Monday night or early this morning that the Galveston Police Department had investigated.
Investigators are treating the crash as an accident, Benavides said.
Traffic was badly backed-up for about an hour, he said.
