Macon, GA : Teen killed in Putnam accident on Saturday, July 16, 2016
A Stockbridge teen died Saturday when the car she was riding in collided with a pickup in Putnam County.
Sheriff Howard Sills said alcohol is suspected.
“The debris field was replete with alcohol containers,” he said.
The accident happened at about 10:20 p.m. on Ga. 212 between U.S. 129 and Twin Bridges Road. Courtney George Perry, 19, of Stockbridge, was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima that struck a 2015 GMC pickup driven by Christian James Batchelor, 16, of Eatonton.
Sills said the alcohol containers came from Perry’s vehicle and that Batchelor was not drinking.
Sills said Perry’s vehicle swerved into the other lane and struck Batchelor’s vehicle in the side. Rachel Wall, 18, of Stockbridge, was a passenger in Perry’s vehicle and was ejected. She died at the scene.
Perry was taken to Oconee Regional Medical Center in Milledgeville but was not seriously injured, Sills said. Batchelor and a passenger had only minor injuries, he said.
Sills said Perry refused to take a breathalyzer test. He obtained a search warrant to get a blood sample and that was taken about two hours after the accident. Results of the test are pending and charges will be considered at that time, Sills said.
Sills said the alcohol level at the time of the accident can be determined by what the blood test shows. As an underage person, he said Perry should not have any amount of alcohol.
