3 girls hurt in bus-plow crash in Portsmouth


Portsmouth police said three girls were taken to a hospital for minor injuries after an accident involving a school plus and a snow plow.

Police said the driver of a plow owned by Mello's Construction in Middletown failed to stop at the end of Middle Road and struck a school bus at the intersection of Union Street at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said a 10-year-old girl, a 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl were taken to Newport Hospital for complaints of pain.

Police said the driver, 41-year-old Brian Wheeler of Little Compton, has been cited.

There were as many as 55 students on the bus. The uninjured students were put on another bus and continued on to school.
