Duluth,MN : Girl dies in rollover crash on I-35 near Cloquet on January, Saturday 3rd 2018

A 15-year-old girl died in a rollover crash on Interstate 35 in Carlton County on Saturday afternoon.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported Sunday that Heather Rose Doucette of Zimmerman, Minn., was a passenger in a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer that was traveling north on I-35 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the it to go into the median and roll multiple times.


Road conditions were snowy and icy at the time of the rollover at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, according to the State Patrol. The crash happened a couple of miles south of the Highway 210 exit.

Another passenger, Hanna Ruby Valerius, 12, of Zimmerman sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, according to the State Patrol. The driver, Amanda Beth Valerius, 38, of Zimmerman, didn’t report any injuries.

Amanda Valerius was wearing a seat belt, authorities said. The Patrol said it was not known whether the two passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Earlier Saturday, a 19-year-old White Bear Lake, Minn., man was seriously injured in a rollover crash on I-35 near Midway Road.

The State Patrol reported that Joseph Michael Sarne suffered life-theatening injuries when the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving north on the freeway just before 9:30 a.m. went into the median and rolled, coming to rest on its roof. Sarne, who authorities said was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to St. Luke’s hospital in Duluth.
