SWAMPSCOTT, MA : 'Major' crash reported in Swampscott at the intersection of Paradise and Ellis roads on Tuesday, 8th January 2019

A motorcyclist died in a crash with a vehicle shortly before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Paradise and Ellis roads.

The first indication of the accident was a police radio broadcast requesting two ambulances, followed about five minutes later by a notification that a medflight had been requested.

Swampscott Police Lt. Tom Stephens said the crash, which involved a motorcycle and a car, both traveling on Paradise Road adjacent to Abbott Park, occurred when the motorcycle pulled around and passed the car directly ahead of him, which had stopped to allow a vehicle in the oncoming lane to turn left across Paradise Road. The motorcycle struck the right rear corner of the turning vehicle, and the operator was thrown from his cycle.

He is thought to have died upon impact.

Lt. Stephens said police believe the motorcycle’s speed and the weather conditions contributed to the crash.
