A 7-year-old boy was killed and a woman was injured when a car he was in went off the road and crashed into an embankment, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.
Christopher Case Johnson, of Tamassee, died of blunt force trauma, Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley said.
Troopers said the crash happened around 11:10 p.m. Saturday on Highway 133, also known as Crowe Creek Road, near Salem.
Troopers said 2008 four-door Chevrolet was headed north when it went off the road on a curve and hit an embankment.
Troopers said Christopher, who was in a booster seat at the time of the crash, was taken by emergency medical services personnel to the hospital where he later died.
Officials said the 28-year-old woman driver from Tamassee was also injured in the crash and was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.
The crash remains under investigation.
