Colorado Springs, CO : 64-year-old man died after crashed SUV into a convenience store on the city’s northeast side on Tuesday night, Oct 27, 2015

A 64-year-old Colorado Springs man died Tuesday night after he crashed his SUV into a convenience store on the city’s northeast side during what is believed to a medical episode, police said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was driving north on Austin Bluffs Parkway when his car crossed onto oncoming traffic, jumped over a curb and crashed into an empty 7-Eleven store at the corner of Austin Bluffs Parkway and Rangewood Drive, police said.

The incident was reported about 7:45 p.m.

Witnesses said “the driver may have been in need of medical attention prior to the crash,” police said in a report.

In a report by Gazette news partner KKTV, a witness said she saw the man slumped over inside his SUV as it was moving. People at the scene performed CPR on the man until ambulance arrived, KKTV reported.

Police said the man died during the incident.

The cause of death is unknown.

The incident remains under investigation through Wednesday morning.
