PORTLAND, OR : 1 arrest, 1 injured after chase, crash between car, motorbike on Hwy 26 in SW Portland on Wednesday, 26th June 2024
A 60-year-old Beaverton driver is facing assault charges after police say he chased and then crashed into a motorcyclist with his car on Highway 26 on Wednesday, according to Portland police.
Just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, police responded to the crash between a car and a motorcycle on eastbound Highway 26 at the Southwest Sylvan Road overpass. They found a 2006 Subaru Legacy Outback resting on its roof near a crashed 2016 Yamaha motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, identified as 47-year-old Tha Ouk of Vancouver, was seriously injured and taken to the hospital by ambulance where he is expected to recover. The Subaru driver, identified as David J. Bumgardner, did not report any injuries.
After an initial investigation, the Portland Police Bureau said on Saturday that the incident began while Ouk was allegedly riding between lanes, which is not legal in Oregon.
