Dalton, GA : 17-year-old texting driver crashes through motel wall in Dalton on Saturday, March 25th 2017
say texting while driving was the cause of a crash that sent a car careening through the wall of a motel room where two people were lodging.
Police spokesman Bruce Frazier said neither of the people were seriously injured when the 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix crashed into their bedroom at the Motel 6 on U.S. Highway 41.
Frazier said the 17-year-old driver was traveling south on U.S. 41 about 7:30 a.m. and failed to make a curve. The car went through a parking lot and into the rear of the motel building, crashing into the bathroom area. The impact pushed the bed into the front wall of the room, Frazier said.
He said the driver admitted to texting while driving, and added there was no sign the driver was intoxicated.
The driver has been charged with using a cell phone while driving under the age of 18. The crash is still under investigation and further charges are possible, Frazier said.
