Morganton, N.C : Two injured, one charged after three car wreck on U.S. Highway 70 near Drexel on Wednesday afternoon, March 8, 2017
Morganton, North Carolina
Two people were injured and another was charged after a three-vehicle pileup on U.S. Highway 70 near Drexel on Wednesday afternoon.
Taylor Nicole Walker, 22 of 107 Greenbriar Lane in Morganton, was charged with failing to stop for a red light and for operating a vehicle on a suspended license, said State Trooper K. Robinson with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Around 4:15 p.m., Walker was driving a silver car east on U.S. 70 when she ran a red light at the Drexel intersection near Family Dollar and O’Reilly Auto Parts, Robinson said.
A white SUV driving south, coming from the city limits of Drexel, was then struck by Walker when going through the intersection. The two vehicles then collided with a black truck that was stationary at a red light on Drexel Road, he said.
Robinson believes the wreck to be caused by carelessness.
“No alcohol, no high speed and no wreckless driving just inattention really,” he said.
One person was entrapped in a vehicle due to the door not being able to open. EMS and fire crews were able to extract them from the vehicle, he said.
Christine Morales, of Drexel, and a 15-year-old that were in the white SUV were taken by Burke EMS to Valdese Hospital with minor injuries, Robinson said. Walker told police that she would be taking herself to Carolinas HealthCare Systems Blue Ridge just for precautionary measures. There were no other injuries reported.
