Fort Myers, FL : One person was commits suicide after a two-vehicle crash at Cape Coral On Tuesday, August 16th, 2016

A driver committed suicide Tuesday morning after a two-vehicle crash in Cape Coral.

According to the Cape Coral police, officers responded to a crash with injuries at Del Prado Boulevard and SE 4th Terrace about 9:30 a.m. When an officer approached the driver's door of one of the cars, 52-year-old

Laurence Kavanaugh killed himself with a shot to the head.

A fragment of the bullet then struck the officer, who was wearing a bullet-resistant vest, in the chest. He didn't suffer any injuries.

The other driver in the crash was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Traffic was shut down in both directions until about noon.
