COSTILLA COUNTY, CO : 1 killed in crash involving semi on Highway 160 near mile marker 277.4 on Monday, 21st January 2019

A driver lost control on La Veta Pass and fatally collided with a semi-truck.

Troopers suspect excessive speeding caused the crash, which happened at 10:30 Monday morning on Highway 160 near mile marker 277.4.

According to State Patrol, the driver missed a curve in the road and veered into the opposite lane of traffic directly in the path of the oncoming semi. The collision pushed the SUV back into the lane it had originally been traveling in, where it finally came to a stop in the shoulder.

The driver in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 47-year-old Blake Noonan of Pueblo.

The truck driver was not hurt.
