BERWICK, ME : Sanford man killed in bus-car crash in Berwick on Wednesday, January, 10th 2018
A Sanford man was killed Wednesday after his car was rear-ended and pushed into the path of an oncoming school bus, according to police.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at Route 4 (Portland Street) near the intersection of Old Route 4 around 1:40 p.m. for crash involving multiple vehicles and a Marshwood school bus that was not carrying students.
Police said the man who was killed, a 31-year-old Sanford resident, was driving a 2006 Ford Fusion and was in the process of turning, when his vehicle was hit by a 2015 Toyota Rav 4, driven by a 42-year-old woman also from Sanford.
The Fusion was sent into the path of the oncoming 2010 school bus and collided with the bus.
The 75-year-old bus driver from Kittery was not injured.
Police said the 31-year-old was taken to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire, where he was pronounced dead.
The identities of everyone involved in the crash were not immediately released by police.
Just after the crash, Marshwood School District Superintendent Mary Nash, sent a message to parents to let them know that one of the district’s buses was involved in a serious accident.
