Tucson, AZ : Arizona Department of Public safety officer seriously injured after colliding with a semi-trailer on Interstate 10 near Tucson on Friday, March 27, 2015

An Arizona Department of Public safety officer was injured after colliding with a semi-trailer on Interstate 10 near Tucson.

The accident happened shortly after 10 a.m. on westbound I-10 near Tangerine Road. The westbound freeway was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

DPS says the officer is 31 years old and has been with the department for eight years. He was driving on the far left lane when the semi-trailer pulled into his path from the emergency lane.

The officer had to be extricated from his sports utility vehicle but his injuries were not life-threatening. The driver of the semi was not injured.

The officer had a DPS K-9 with him that wasn't injured. An investigation is ongoing.
