The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a teen was killed in a single-car crash in Greenwood County on Friday night.
Troopers said the driver of a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse was traveling north on SC-67 around 11:15 p.m. when they left the roadway and struck a tree.
Lance Cpl. David Jones said the driver was entrapped in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene due to blunt force trauma.
Greenwood County coroner Sonny Cox identified the driver as 17-year-old Adrian Rae Summer of Sheffield Road.
A small group of Summer's family and friends gathered at the crash site Saturday afternoon and created a makeshift memorial.
The group arranged flowers at the scene and hung red ribbons.
Family said Summer was a senior at Emerald High School.
The accident remains under investigation by South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Greenwood County Coroner's Office.
