DRUMS, PA : Hazleton Area teacher charged with DUI, assault in motorcycle collision on Tuesday, 20th September 2016
A Hazleton Area School District language arts teacher has been accused of colliding with a motorcycle while driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, leaving a motorcyclist with back and hip injuries.
The Times Tribune reports police say Kathleen Beltrami collided with the motorcycle earlier this month on state Route 309, about 30 miles southwest of Scranton.
Court documents say the 54-year-old Drums Elementary/Middle School teacher was found unresponsive at the foot of a stairwell in her garage. She had a blood-alcohol content of 0.23 percent.
Beltrami faces charges including driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, aggravated assault by vehicle and accidents involving death or personal injury.
The district says it'll confer with its solicitor about the charges.
It's not known if she has a lawyer.
