Philadelphia, PA : Driver, passenger killed after car hits school bus in northeast Philadelphia on Sunday, December 18, 2016

Police say a driver and his passenger are dead after their vehicle rear-ended a school bus in northeast Philadelphia.

Police tell WPVI-TV the driver of the Mercedes was traveling northbound at speeds well above the 45 mph speed limit before it hit the school bus around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small says the impact caused the Mercedes to go underneath the rear bumper of the school bus. The male driver and female passenger were killed instantly. They weren’t immediately identified.

The news station reports that the school bus belongs to the Huntingdon Valley Christian Academy. The bus dropped off students just minutes before the crash.

No other injuries were reported.
