Butler,OH : High speed chase ends in crash, two police cars damaged on November, Monday 20th 2017

A police chase ended Monday night with a car crashing into a wooden area, sending two people to the hospital. The man and woman in the hospital will likely face charges after leading police on the high speed chase.

During the chase, the couple crashed into two police cruisers, causing significant damages to both cars.

As of Monday night, the man and woman were recovering at Grandview Medical Center, being treated for non-life threatening injuries. They’re now facing drug and robbery charges, as well as charges for evading police. One man 2 NEWS spoke with saw the chase and says it was unlike anything he’d ever seen.

“I heard the sirens,” Daniel Koehler said. “They kept getting closer and closer to the house.”

Koehler recounted the terrifying police chase that zoomed right past his bedroom window Monday night, reaching speeds up to 60 miles per hour.

“I immediately walked outside,” Koehler said. “The driver must not have know it was a cul-de-sac and he drove up right between these two houses and he crashed into the backyard.”

The driver crashed his car into a wooded area behind a home on Autumn Ridge Court near Benchwood Road in Butler Township.

“It’s kind of shocking,” Skye Roberts said. “Because that kind of thing doesn’t happen around here. It’s so quiet.”

Neighbors were stunned at the damage left behind. A wooden fence was destroyed after Police say the suspect drove right through it before crashing. The chase started after officers say the couple stole less $100 dollars worth of merchandise from the Butler Township Walmart.

As they were trying to leave, police tried to stop them in the parking lot.

“As the suspect was making an evasive maneuver, he actually struck the side of one of our police cars,” Butler Township Police Chief John Porter said. “He crashed into the dumpster behind the Hooters. He then backs up and hits a second cruiser causing damage to the second cruiser.”

Police recovered drugs and drug paraphernalia from both suspects. Neighbors say they’re relieved no one else was injured.

“That was definitely the scariest part,” Koehler said. “Not knowing what was going on. I didn’t know if the driver was armed or what.”

“Whatever they’re looking for I hope they find it,” Roberts said. “And work with Police and get it taken care of.”

Butler Township Police say both cruisers are now out of service and will be repaired. At this time, Chief Porter says he’s not releasing the suspects’ identities because they have not been formally charged.
