McAllen, TX : Man killed after a collision with sheriff's deputy in Weslaco on Saturday morning, November 5, 2016
A rural Weslaco man died in Weslaco early Saturday morning when his car crashed into an Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office patrol truck, according to a press release from the city's police department.
Emilio Reyna Soto, 36, was driving southbound on International Boulevard with his 2006 Ponitac's headlights off. The PD's release states that he was going at a "high speed" in the 55 mile-per-hour zone, but did not specify his velocity.
Deputy Sgt. Rafael Madrigal, 43, was going north on International Boulevard and Pike Boulevard in a 2014 Ford Expedition when Soto veered into the sergeant's lane, colliding head-on with his vehicle just before 1 A.M.
Soto died at the scene while Madrigal suffered a broken foot. It is unclear if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. The incident is still under investigation.
