Moorpark, CA : 2 people injured after head-on crash near Moorpark on Wednesday, February 4, 2015
Two people were injured Wednesday in a head-on crash along Los Angeles Avenue near Moorpark, officials said.
The crash was reported about 11:35 a.m. near the intersection of Los Angeles Avenue and Grimes Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The drivers of both cars were trapped and rescued by fire crews, officials said.
The man and the woman suffered major injuries and were taken to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. They were later listed in stable condition, according to the highway patrol.
It appears that the man was heading west when his car veered into the opposite lane and crashed into the woman's car. They were near a curve in the road when they collided and were apparently traveling about 55 mph hour, officials said. A posted sign approaching the curve suggests drivers slow to 35 mph.
The crash occurred west of railroad tracks in the area but did not affect train schedules.
Both sides of the road, part of Highway 118, were closed for almost three hours after the crash while officials investigated.
