Columbia, MO : Five people injured after head-on crash northeast of Jefferson City on Monday morning, Sep 7, 2015

Five people were taken to University Hospital in serious condition early Monday morning after a head-on crash northeast of Jefferson City in Callaway County.

According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet van was heading west on Highway 94 near County Road 466 when it failed to take a curve, crossed over the center line and collided with a Chevrolet Malibu. Both cars suffered extensive damage.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation as of midday Monday, according to the Highway Patrol.

James Martin-Lucas, 20, of Fulton, who was airlifted to the hospital, was in fair condition Monday evening,* University Hospital house manager Joan Butler said. Martin-Lucas was the driver of the Chevrolet van.

Jadelyn Weed, 20, of Jefferson City, was the first to be released Monday morning, Butler said, adding that that Jessica Schleicher, 36, of St. Louis, would likely be released soon as well. Butler said Schleicher was in fair condition Monday night.*

Weed and Schleicher were the only two involved who were not wearing seatbelts.

Christina McDonald, 30, and James Volkerding, 35, both of Marthasville, Missouri, were also discharged early Monday morning. Volkerding was the driver of the Malibu.
