Sacramento, CA : Car cutting in front of another car triggers fatal Highway 101 crash on Sunday, November, 26th 2017
A 29-year-old Sunnyvale man died Sunday after the car he was driving crashed on Highway 101 in Mountain View, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Juan Carlos Reynoso Velazquez died of his injuries at Stanford Medical Center.
According to CHP Officer Erick Parra, at about 8:05 a.m. a white 2014 Honda was traveling southbound on Highway 101 in the lane next to the slow lane and approaching the Ellis Street off-ramp. The car, driven by Brain Maskell, 51, of San Jose, changed lanes in order to exit at Ellis Street. It crossed in front of a black 1995 Honda traveling in the slow lane and driven by Velazquez.
Velazquez swerved to avoid the white Honda and lost control of his car, which struck a fence along the highway and turned over. He was taken to Stanford Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
Neither alcohol nor drugs is considered to be a factor in the crash, the CHP said.
The CHP closed the southbound Ellis Street off-ramp for about 1 1/2 hours during its investigation.
