Arizona City, AZ : Maricopa man killed and another injured in head-on collision on SR 347 Sunday night, August 7, 2016

A 20-year-old Maricopa man was killed and another injured in an accident on State Route 347 involving four vehicles Sunday night, authorities said.

Christopher A. Canavett was killed when the vehicle he was driving southbound along SR 347 crossed over wrong-way into northbound traffic, side-swiped a vehicle and then collided head-on with a third vehicle, Arizona Department of Public Safety Trooper Raul Garcia Jr. said. A fourth vehicle rear-ended the third vehicle.

Three other vehicles struck debris from the four-vehicle crash.

The highway was closed in both directions after the 8:16 p.m. accident as troopers investigated on-scene and crews cleaned up the roadway. The highway was reopened at 4:13 a.m., Garcia said.

The driver of the third vehicle was transported to a Chandler hospital with undisclosed injuries.
During the closure northbound SR 347 traffic was detoured onto Riggs Road to Interstate 10. Southbound SR 347 was open at Old Maricopa Road.
