DeFUNIAK SPRINGS, FL : Minor injuries reported in bus accident on Friday, August 25, 2017

A driver sustained minor injuries and eight children were taken to a nearby hospital after a school bus was struck by a car Friday afternoon.

The DeFuniak Springs Police Department responded about 3 p.m. Friday, a Walton County school bus being driven by J.B. Miller, 72, crossed into the path of a two-door Mitsubishi being driven by Matthew Crabtree, 19, on U.S. 90.

Miller told police he didn’t see the Mitsubishi before pulling out, and Crabtree did not have time to avoid the bus, which was carrying students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Crabtree sustained minor cuts and was believed to have a concussion, police reported. He was transported to a medical facility by a family member. Eight of the children on the bus were transported to Healthmark Regional Medical Center as a precaution.

Police said all of the children, including those at the hospital, had been picked up by their guardians.

Miller was cited for failing to yield right of way.
