WILLIAMSBURG, KY : A vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash on Monday, November, 27th 2017
Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash Monday morning that resulted in a vehicle versus building collision.
Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird said he received a call around 11 a.m. reporting a vehicle versus building at First State Financial in Williamsburg.
“We didn’t have a whole lot of information because the bank employees were pretty shook up,” Bird said.
According to Bird, Edward D. Smith, 22, of Williamsburg was involved in a minor accident with a 2001 Jeep approximately one mile north of First State Financial on KY 25. Smith fled the scene of that accident for unknown reasons. A juvenile was in the vehicle with Smith and tried to get Smith to stop.
“For whatever reason the driver panicked and was fleeing that scene at a high rate of speed,” Bird added.
Smith then struck a 2013 Kia that was making a left turn into the bank parking lot. According to Bird, Smith then veered off and crashed into the front doors of the bank. Smith exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The juvenile remained in the vehicle.
“The driver is looking at multiple traffic offenses,” Bird said. “He’s looking at hit and run and numerous counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.”
Bird said the bank received significant damage but luckily there were no injuries reported.
Bird is asking anyone with information on the location of Edward D. Smith, 22, of Williamsburg to contact the Williamsburg Police Department.
Williamsburg Fire Department, Whitley EMS and Kentucky State Police assisted the Williamsburg Police Department.
