Wichita, KS : Man dies in motorcycle crash near Wichita Art Museum on Wednesday night, July 6, 2016

A loose motorcycle chain led to a fatal crash Wednesday night, police said.

The chain came loose as the 60-year-old man was riding west in the 1300 block of West Museum Boulevard at about 5:40 p.m., Wichita police Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said. Witnesses said the rider was looking down at the loose chain when his 1974 custom motorcycle struck the curb, left the roadway and hit a metal pole.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later died. His name has not been released.

“There’s no indication that speed was a factor,” Woodrow said.

This is the third motorcycle fatality of the year in Wichita and the 12th traffic death overall in the city, she said.
