Police arrested a Veneta, Ore. woman in connection with a hit-and-run crash in Springfield on Thursday that killed a man visiting from Mexico as he crossed Main Street with his son.
Isabel McDaniel, 30, is accused of hitting the pedestrians and driving for a mile and half with one of the victims on top of the car, Springfield Police said.
The victim, identified as Daniel Ortiz-Reynaga, 67, of Mexico, later died at the hospital.
Ortiz-Reynaga was crossing Main Street at 54th Street with his son, Julio Ortiz, 39, of Springfield, when around 6:15 p.m. Thursday they were hit by a white Honda Civic wagon, police said.
The car sideswiped Ortiz. The impact flipped Ortiz-Reynaga up on top of the car, police said.
The driver continued west to 43rd Place with the victim on top of the car, police said.
As the car approached 42nd Street and Smith Way, the victim either fell off the car or was removed, police said.
