Lemoore, CA : Hanford woman was killed in a single-car crash on Sunday October 26th 2014.
A Hanford woman was killed in a single-car crash near Lemoore Sunday after being ejected from a vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.
Patsy Perez, 46, sustained fatal injuries after a car she was a passenger in overturned into a cotton field.
According to the CHP, at 5:18 p.m., Brittany Perez, 24, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound on 16th Avenue, just south of Jackson Avenue, at a high-speed. Also in the car were Patsy Perez and 44-year-old Pedro Tafolla.
Officials said while Brittany Perez was driving, the Tahoe went from the southbound lane into the northbound lane, then onto the shoulder on the east side of the road.
After realizing she was on the wrong side of the road, Brittany Perez swerved the Tahoe to the right, the CHP said. The Tahoe then went out of control, crossed the road, went onto the west shoulder and rolled over into a cotton field. The car eventually came to rest on its wheels, a press release said.
Sometime during the crash Patsy Perez was ejected from the car. She was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, the CHP said.
When officers arrived, they determined that Brittany Perez had been drinking before the collision and was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, the CHP said.
“The driver attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was apprehended shortly after the collision,” Public Information Officer Adam Barresi said.
