Sanford,FL : Teen hit and killed by SunRail train identified on may, Friday 19th 2017
A teen was hit and killed by a SunRail train in Sanford Friday evening, officials told WESH 2 News.
Officials said they notified the boy's parents of the news. The victim was identified as Marcees Kilpatrick, 13.
More than 60 people were on the train when it struck the teen.
Officials said the teen was near the intersection of McCracken Road and Persimmon Avenue in Sanford, walking his bike across the tracks.
A call came in reporting the incident at 5:45 p.m. The victim was declared dead at the scene.
All SunRail trains were delayed by 45 minutes due to police activity.
The Florida Department of Transportation worked to provide transportation to those who needed it as a result of the crash and pending delays.
Members of the community were very upset to hear the news.
"I can't think right now," a neighbor told WESH 2 News.
Some neighbors watched for hours, waiting to learn if their son was the victim.
"It could be one of the kids that just left in front of my house. It could be my boyfriend's stepson. He didn't even answer the phone," said Tammy Spivey, who has lived in the area her entire life.
Despite the "no trespassing" signs, Spivey said kids regularly play along the train tracks. She said she fears for her family member's life.
"I just want to go back and see if it's him, and they won't let me back there," Spivey said.
It's unclear if the conductor saw the boy or slowed down before the collision.
