Fredericksburg, VA : Man dies after crash on U.S. 17 in Stafford on Wednesday, December, 6th 2017
A Spotsylvania County man died Wednesday of injuries he suffered in a car crash on U.S. 17 in Stafford County a day earlier.
According to the Virginia State Police, at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday a Fredericksburg woman driving a Mazda van north on U.S. 17 made a U-turn about a half mile south of Lendall Lane. She pulled out in front of a southbound car, which ran into the van.
Both drivers, who were wearing seat belts, were taken to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the car, 21-year-old Zachary Aaron Kelly, died at the hospital shortly before noon Wednesday, according to Sgt. Les Tyler.
The van driver, 31-year-old Anastacia Carter of Fredericksburg, has been charged with failing to yield the right of way.
Information on the nature and severity of Carter's injuries was unavailable.
The crash shut down southbound U.S. 17 for about two hours.
