Daytona, FL : 16-year-old girl was sleeping when a driver crashed a car into her bedroom in Volusia County on Wednesday, September 17, 2014
A 16-year-old girl was sleeping when a car crashed through the wall of her Volusia County bedroom overnight.
"I was scared. I just started crying," said Areyana Bailey. "I felt the bed move and then I sat up and I looked around and there was like a big hole in my wall."
The crash sent her bed flying across the room and hunks of concrete hurtling all over. An out-of-control driver roared across the front lawn and into the front of the house. Areyana's mom awoke to the bang and said she thought her elderly father had fallen out of bed. Then she realized the trouble was in Areyana's room, but the bed was against the door.
"She was barricaded in there and she couldn't get out but I could, there was just enough opening of the door for me to see that there was a huge hole in the wall," said Ericka Johnson, Areyana's mother.
The driver took off but was later found at home in Daytona Beach and cited for leaving the scene of an accident with property damage but Johnson thinks it's a miracle her daughter is alive.
"She definitely could be dead and I'm just thankful to God that he spared my daughter's life. I'm just thankful," Johnson said.
So is Areyana, though, she said she never saw the car, didn't know what hit her and didn't realize at first she was actually awake.
