Carbondale, IL : Brookport teen dies in Pope County vehicle crash on April, Thursday 6th 2017

An 18-year-old woman is dead after a vehicle crash in Pope County.

According to a news release from Illinois State Police District 22, Claudia N. Anderson, 18, of Brookport, was traveling north on Bay City Road, a quarter mile south of Homberg Road, at about 8 a.m. Thursday in a 2002 Hyundai Sonata when she failed to negotiate a curve. Her vehicle crossed the southbound lane and ran off the roadway, police said. The vehicle then struck a ditch and overturned, causing fatal injuries to Anderson.

Anderson was wearing a seat belt, police said. She was alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

ISP said the investigation into the crash is continuing.
