Sarasota County, FL : Blown dump-truck tire causes 3-vehicle accident in Manatee on Monday afternoon, September 29, 2014
A dump truck had a tire blowout on Interstate 75 north of River Road late Monday afternoon, causing a chain reaction collision that involved two other vehicles, one of them a marked Florida Highway Patrol car.
According to a FHP report, a 2002 dump truck driven by Brenda Carney, 54, of Bradenton was on I-75 near mile marker 191, traveling in the right lane when the left front tire blew out. The dump truck veered into the center lane, striking a 2005 SUV that then veered into the left lane, striking a FHP patrol car.
The collision caused the FHP patrol car to enter the shoulder, sideswiping the guardrail; the dump truck continued across the northbound lanes and struck the rear of the patrol car before hitting the guardrail and overturning.
The truck driver, Carney, suffered minor injuries and was cited for operating a vehicle with unsafe equipment, according to the FHP report.
