Sarasota County, FL : Blown dump-truck tire causes 3-vehicle accident in Manatee on Monday afternoon, September 29, 2014

A dump truck had a tire blowout on Interstate 75 north of River Road late Monday afternoon, causing a chain reaction collision that involved two other vehicles, one of them a marked Florida Highway Patrol car. According to a FHP report, a 2002 dump truck driven by Brenda Carney, 54, of Bradenton was on I-75 near mile marker 191, traveling in the right lane when the left front tire blew out. The dump truck veered into the center lane, striking a 2005 SUV that then veered into the left lane, striking a FHP patrol car. The collision caused the FHP patrol car to enter the shoulder, sideswiping the guardrail; the dump truck continued across the northbound lanes and struck the rear of the patrol car before hitting the guardrail and overturning.
