Gulf Shores , AL : Two bicyclists injured after collision with Car on Wednesday morning,May 27th 2015

Medics transported two bicyclists from Gulf State Park to Pensacola, Florida, hospitals after a collision involving a car Wednesday morning.

Officers with the Gulf Shores Police Department and Gulf Shores Fire Rescue responded to the crash on Baldwin County Road 2, about 1 mile north of East Beach Boulevard, before 9:30 a.m.

Police did not immediately respond to requests for additional information.

Gulf Shores Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Bo Smith said they were called to the scene just after 9 a.m.

A car had apparently struck a man in his 70's and a woman in her 50's as they were riding bikes on County Road 2. Neither were conscious when authorities arrived, Smith said. He could not say what condition they were in.

Medics transported the man by helicopter to Baptist Hospital. The woman was transported by an ambulance, Smith said.

He added that accidents were not common on the road, which cuts through Gulf State Park.
