Wolcott ,CT : Three special needs students and bus monitor injured after bus crashed into a tree on Monday afternoon ,June 8th 2015
Police say three special needs students and a bus monitor were injured, one critically, after a bus crashed into a tree about 20 miles southwest of Hartford.
The bus was coming from Tyrell Middle School in Wolcott on Monday afternoon when police say it hit a tree.
Police say an off-duty paramedic saw the crash and assisted two patients.
All four were taken to St. Mary's Hospital but one boy has been transported to Connecticut Children's Hospital in Hartford with serious head injuries.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident and will obtain a subpoena to see if the driver was texting while driving.
Police say the driver told them he swerved to avoid an oncoming car that had crossed the center line.
