A Bristol man was killed in a crash in Massachusetts on Sunday.
At 5:04 p.m., Massachusetts State Police responded to reports of a crash on Route 3 southbound in Chelmsford, south of Exit 30. The caller, an off-duty trooper, reported a one-vehicle crash, where the vehicle had exited the right-side roadway and into a body of water. The off-duty trooper entered the water to attempt to render medical aid to the driver.Upon arrival, troopers removed the driver from the vehicle. The driver and only occupant of the 2011 BMW X3, a 63-year-old man from Bristol, was unresponsive. The man was transported by ambulance to Lowell General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigation showed the driver may have had a medical incident behind the wheel, which caused the crash. The name of the driver will be released after family members have been notified.
The crash remains under investigation.
