A woman was hit and killed by a bus on Interstate 205 early Thursday morning, as the bus was carrying the George Fox University baseball team to the Portland International Airport.
University officials said no one else was injured in the crash.
Police were called out to the Powell Boulevard/Division Street exit of I-205 around 3:30 a.m. Thursday after getting reports that a woman had been hit by a bus.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson from George Fox University said the bus, which is owned by Athletic Transportation Services, was taking the school’s baseball team to the airport.
The 25 to 30 players on board were heading to Texas to start their season. Another bus came to the crash scene and shuttled them to the airport.
Police closed the northbound lanes of I-205, rerouting traffic off the highway at the Powell/Division exit.
The crash caused extensive delays. The interstate was reopened around 7:45 a.m. after a crash investigation.
