Clay County, FL : Moped driver, 21, critically injured in hit-and-run crash on U.S. 17 near Mahama Bluff Road on Tuesday night, March 14, 2017

A 21-year-old Hampton man driving a moped was critical injured Tuesday night when a car collided with the rear of the bike in Green Cove Springs and then left the crash scene, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash was reported just after 10:30 p.m. on U.S. 17 near Mahama Bluff Road.

According to FHP, a black Acura TL collided with the rear of the blue Kymco Moped and then continued traveling north on U.S. 17.

The driver of the moped was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with critical injuries, troopers said.

The 40-year-old woman driving the Acura left the scene, but was later located on Milwaukee Avenue by an officer with the Orange Park Police Department, investigators said.

The Highway Patrol said that charges are pending further investigation.
