Rolla, MO : St. James driver seriously hurt in Tuesday I-44 crash on Tuesday, January, 23rd 2018

A Tuesday morning traffic accident in the westbound lanes of I-44, near the 194 mile marker, just west of St. James proved serious for a St. James woman. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) report, Jaclyn L. Thompson, age 24, of St. James, was traveling westbound in the right lane at 7:42 a.m. in a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, alongside a westbound 2017 Peterbuilt tractor trailer, driven by William R. Casper, Jr., age 60, from Carterville, Ill. Thompson’s Chevrolet skidded into the path of the tractor trailer. According to the report, after impact, both vehicles traveled off of the south side of the interstate into the median. Thompson suffered serious injuries and was flown by Phelps County Air to University Hospital in Columbia. Casper received no injuries, but the tractor trailer received moderate damage. Thompson’s car was totaled. Both drivers were wearing safety devices. The accident was investigated by MSHP Cpl. J.R. McCurdy and and was assisted by Sgt. S.W. Cunningham, Cpl. J.L. Keathly, Tpr. R. A. Tyler, Capt. J.W. Remillard, St James Fire Department, St. James Ambulance District, St. James Police Department and MoDot.
